Certified Sommelier Certificate

The primary qualification for hospitality wine and beverage professionals, recognizing sommeliers whose knowledge, skills, and professionalism merit the title.

Certified Sommelier Certificate

Prerequisite: Court of Master Sommeliers Introductory Certificate (must be completed within 2 years).

Objectives:

  • To create a minimum standard of service and knowledge for the Hospitality Industry.
  • To provide successful candidates with credentials to show employers their skills have been evaluated at a high level of proficiency by the leading authority on beverage service – the Internationally recognised Court of Master Sommeliers Worldwide.
  • To create a certification that provides all successful candidates with a sense of accomplishment while providing the most dedicated students an opportunity to further their education and skills at the Advanced and Masters levels.

The Certified Sommelier Examination comprises three parts:

  1. Short written theory paper of 40 multiple choice and short answer questions.
  2. Tasting test consisting of two wines tasted blind, and answered on a Tasting Grid.
  3. Practical service test.

Practical information

Price

The course fee is 3600 DKK and exempt from VAT.

Where and when

All classes will be at our premises at Hotel- og Restaurantskolen, Vigerslev Allé 18, 2500 Valby.

The course will take place on the following date:

March 27 from 9.30 – 17.00

Payment

In case of cancellation of registration before December 1st 2025 the total course fee will be refunded with the exception of a small refund fee if you paid by invoice.

In case of cancellation between December 1st 2025 and February 25th 2026 50% of the course fee will be refunded

In case of cancellation after February 25th 2026 the course fee will not be refunded.

In case you don’t pass the Introductory exam, the fee for Certificate will be refunded.

FAQ

Can I skip directly to Advanced levels?

No. Each CMS level must be completed in order.

Can I sign up for both Introductory and Certified now?

Yes. You can register for both courses now, and if you don’t pass the Introductory, we will refund the Certified exam fee with the exception of a small refund fee if you paid by invoice.

Useful information

Food on the school

While taking a course at the school, you have several options for lunch.

  • The Restaurant. Employees, pupils, and course participants can eat a lunch menu made by our gastronomy pupils, and served by our waiter pupils.
  • Spisehuset. This is our canteen where you will find affordable green food.
  • Kaffebaren. This is the place to buy sandwiches, salads, fruit, and coffee.
  • Madboderne. When our pupils have made food, bread, ice cream, and cake - this is where you can taste it for yourself.

Smoke-free school

We have smoke free time at the school for everyone. That includes all social events, and it also applies outside of the school. 

The restriction bans all tobacco products including cigarettes, e-cigarrettes, and chewing tobacco.

Uniforms

If you have lessons in the kitchen, you have to wear an approved uniform. You can bring your own or borrow one from the school.
