The Danish Food and restaurant scene is back! People are eating out again, and they want to eat well. Restaurants and eateries are crying out for new and talented professional chefs.


During your professional chef training, you will learn to work creatively with ingredients, and you will learn a trade that brings joy and pleasure to people from all walks of life. You will learn to combine taste, smell, texture, colour, and sight to make food appealing to all our senses.

Learning technical skills, while keeping up with trends in organic foods and sustainable cooking, will set you on the path to a successful and rewarding career. When you have completed your education, you will have your pick of jobs in restaurants, hotels, cafés, and cantinas - in Denmark and abroad.

Internships are guaranteed, where you will receive a salary not only while working in a kitchen but also when in the classroom at school.

A completed professional chef’s education opens the door to a wealth of possibilities for further study and lays the foundation for a career as a restaurant owner, entrepreneur, manager, or teacher.

About the education

The study starts for the International Class for Culinary Arts are January 17th, and in March and August. Check the specific dates on optagelse.dk

You can only apply through the website: www.optagelse.dk – ungdomsuddannelse – gastronom.

Admission requirements

There are several requirements should you wish to attend our International Class for Culinary Arts:

  • All classes are taught in English, therefore your English level must be adequate.
  • Danish language classes are mandatory for all students who do not have documentation for Danish at level E, and you are expected to sit for the level E exam at the end of the Foundation Program.
  • For applicants who have gone to school in Denmark, you must have a passing grade at the 9th grade level in both Danish and Mathematics. The equivalent from a language school is also accepted.
  • For applicants from other nations, you must have a passing grade at the 9th grade level in your own language and in Mathematics. (See also requirement 2.)
  • You must be an E.U. or E.E.A. citizen, or have a permanent residence permit in Denmark, or are in anticipation of getting such a permanent residence permit.

Please note that the program is especially designed for those students who are already living in Denmark, and who have already learned some Danish.

Duration

The International Class for Culinary Arts is a 20-week introduction to professional cooking, corresponding to the Danish grundforløb for gastronom.

When you complete the program, you will be able to seek an apprenticeship as a chef trainee and enroll in the main culinary program (hovedforløb).

Upon completing the International Class, you are expected to get a culinary internship in Denmark, and attend classes at the college. Please note that these classes during your internship period are mandatory and only taught in Danish.

Therefore, we can’t stress enough the importance of learning Danish.
